9 Tips on how to Prioritize Spending in your Wedding Budget

I'm here to help you spend those wedding funds in ways that will benefit you the most and , if you're working with a smaller bankroll, cut things out of the 'typical' wedding budget that simply aren't necessary.

1. Create a budget. Stick to it. And don't forget to talk to your families about exactly how much they want to contribute before you start booking.

2. Be honest with your vendors as to what your budget is for their particular service. They may be able to help you stay within your spending limit by customizing a package for you. For example your caterer could prepare a simpler menu, your florist may offer to put more greenery into your decor or bouquets which is less expensive than flowers, or your photographer or videographer may be able to adjust the hours or extras included in their packages.

3. Don't skimp on wedding photography. I’m not just saying this because I’m a photographer 🤣 These are the wedding photos you will have for the rest of your life.

Go with a pro. A wedding pro. Shooting weddings is a whole different ballgame than portraits - make sure they have wedding experience and you like their style.

4. Don’t go all out on the little things. Place cards can double as favors. You don't need a custom sign for everything happening at your ceremony and reception.

People are there to celebrate you, you don’t need to overthink or overdo it.

5. DIY, but at your own risk. If it’s only going to save you a few dollars, don’t stress yourself out trying to make instead of buy 150 favors. On the other hand, hand-making items such as something for your guests to sign not only will save you money, but will make it much more sentimental.

6. Keep your guest list under control. If parents want to invite more people politely tell them they will need to foot the bill for the extras.

7. Consider a cocktail party or mini wedding instead of an all-day affair. Let your guests sip cocktails and enjoy hors d'oeuvres at their leisure instead of a sit down dinner or full buffet. You can even opt to not assign seats (ok so not assigning seats doesn't save you money, but it's one less thing for you to plan! )

8. Save money towards your wedding and don't spend more than you can afford. Create a monthly budget that includes putting some money aside for the big day.

9. Use rewards credit cards (wisely). You can even use an airline credit card to earn flying points you can put towards the honeymoon!
